A poem written by a Mirasol student
abril 11, 2014

Last week one of our Board Directors of Michell & Cia visited the Mirasol School, and with much happiness we received a report about motivation and enthusiasm shown by all children, who just started the new school year last March 2014.
The Mirasol School (www.mirasol.com.pe) is a project that began in 2007, and thanks to the collaboration and support from customers, friends and Michell team, we managed to build a school for students from 1st through 6th grade . Today we are proud to see the progress achieved in both the educational and personal level.
During the visit, all children were greeted in each grade, all of them had big smiles and were very thankful. But it was a 4th grade child, who stood up and surprised us with a poem, written by himself and says:
The Mirasol Student
My mother told me: stand up son!
But I did not obey
One day, she bought me one single notebook,
A pen and an eraser.
But on another day the Mirasol school appeared
That same day, together with me, my notebook grew up
And my teacher told me: stand up son!
I was not able to read or to write, but
My teacher said: stand up son!
And even though I did not obey,
My classmates helped me
So I could learn to write and to read
Finally I learnt to read and to write.
I went to Puno and people said:
This boy is well educated, he comes from the Mirasol school
And a teacher from Puno said
This boy deserves many awards.
One day the Principal gave me
A notebook, a pencil and an eraser
And at the Mirasol school
I started to obtain the best grades
And the teachers learnt to love very much this poet boy;
Thanks to my mother
Thanks to my teacher
Thanks to my Principal
And thanks to the support from others,
I will become a professional.

We share this poem because it has a special meaning for Charles Alexander , his teachers, and all people making this great project of the Mirasol School possible. This certainly encourages us to support more , continue to grow the school, and hopefully encourage others to generate new initiatives that can help the educational and personal development of the children in the Peruvian Andes.
